Brickchat
How Brickchat uses your location
Brickchat is built around where you are. Here is exactly what your location is used for, and what it is not used for.
Last updated:
Your district
When you open Brickchat it checks your location once to place you in your district. You only see and post in the district chat and Stories of the district you are physically in.
Checks against faking
The server checks that your position is plausible: its accuracy, how far you moved since the last check, and an approximate position from your internet connection. No check can stop every fake location, but these make it much harder. Checks are logged for 30 days.
Background (optional)
If you turn on automatic district switching and allow “Always” location, Brickchat updates your district as you move. It is off unless you turn it on.
The friends Map (optional)
Sharing your position on the Map is separate and off by default: you start Invisible. If you share, your accepted friends see your exact or approximate position and your battery level. It uses the “Always” permission so your position stays current; without it you stay Invisible. Go back to Invisible from the Map at any time. The district chat, Stories and messages work with “While Using the App”.
What we never do
We never show your exact position in the district chat, never sell location data, and never use it for advertising.
Turning it off
You can change the location permission at any time in your phone settings. Without location, Brickchat cannot place you in a district.
